hi, i am seriously thinking about applying to medical school. i was just wondering, if you could do it all over again, would you still choose this career route? and would you say you have "a life" (of a twentysomething)? thanks :) It is not helpful asking other people why they made decisions regarding their lives, because we all have different motivating factors and future aspirations. Before you go around picking other people’s brains, you need to ask yourself: why do I want to become a doctor? If the word lifestyle, job security, or salary is any where on that list, then you need to seriously reconsider. There medical situation in America is more tenuous then people think—there are people who have graduated from residency and are jobless. Moreover, there are plenty of other careers that earn just as much as doctors if not more, and require much less schooling and therefore less debt. You have to love medicine. Otherwise, for the amount of time and emotional energy you invest in it, it will not feel worth it. |
